This Sapphire was cast in place giving it that organic earthy feel. Note: Sapphires and Diamonds and some Rubies can take the heat of having hot molten metal poured directly onto them, however if a stone is slightly included there may be breaks along fault lines. I would never sand-cast a large significant gem.
